The Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner (IASC) was set up to tackle every aspect of modern slavery and human trafficking in the UK. We were commissioned to design and develop a new website for them to support their three-year strategic plan, which focuses on enhancing the prevention of modern slavery, improving victim protection, and prosecuting offenders. The new website needed to be modern, intuitive and user-friendly, providing quick access to key information with clear navigation paths (including a ‘quick exit’ button). I led both the UX and UI design and worked closely with the content and development team.
From the outset, it was clear that one particular challenge was going to be finding engaging, thoughtful, and relevant imagery, as much of the content they deal with is particularly sensitive. To aid this, I created a series of illustrations that allowed us to bring colour and life to the site in a way that still felt appropriate to the subject matter and the brand.
We developed the website using Umbraco, which allows the team to regularly publish key reports, manage updates and post regular news and articles. Within the first month of the new site being launched, there was a 67% increase in users, a 37% decrease in bounce rate and a massive 391% increase in engagement time per user. The website recently won Gold at the Vega Digital Awards.
