We were approached by CBRE’s Architecture and Design division to come up with an innovative interior design concept for their new headquarters in Henrietta Place, London. One of our key concepts was to make the building as a whole feel like a sensory experience with the integration of innovative lighting, sculptural and audio visual applications, as though the building itself was alive.
I researched current innovations in LED technology and visited the Philips Colour Kinetics headquarters in Reading, eventually putting forward an idea based on one of their new products the iColour tiles. These are low resolution LED panels that enable colour changing effects, however I created a system that would allow abstract video animations to play on them, creating a living light art installation that became the principal feature of the ground floor.
These LED tiles are housed in two separate areas either side of the main reception area and became a real talking point with visitors due to their abstract, almost hypnotic quality and were one of the first of their kind to be installed anywhere in the UK. Utilising a combination of live footage, treated stock footage and bespoke animation I created a series of moving, abstract and ambient videos that play in random sequence on these tiles throughout the day. I also created a Christmas version which plays throughout December and January.
