Disney & Europe

Disney needs no introduction, being one of the largest entertainment companies in the world. We were approached by them to create a bespoke, interactive presentation to help their internal teams create closer ties to European policy and decision makers – and demonstrate the various ways that Disney works with and benefits the EU.

Whilst I investigated various possible solutions, the strict set of requirements rather forced our hand. The presentation had to be interactive, work across multiple devices, contain a lot of high-quality video, and the whole thing had to be contained within a single, offline file. They also wanted the ability to make minor edits themselves. No designer ever wants to suggest ‘PowerPoint’ – but it did seem to tick all the boxes. Naturally, Disney was keen that this not look remotely like a standard PowerPoint, so I worked with a specialist to push the format as far as we could.

The next challenge was the brand and assets. The company seems to be so entirely focussed on B2C comms that there were almost no brand guidelines for B2B work. We struggled to get ahold of any official brand assets, and much of the video content we were provided with required significant editing.

I created a brand look for this that tried to give it a more B2B feel, whilst still looking obviously ‘Disney’. The concept was loosely based on the idea of a journey of a Disney ‘star’ as it makes its way through the presentation. The deck is brought to life through interactive sections, expandable video clips (in total, almost an hour of optional video content), and innovative use of parallax scrolling. Every element is clickable, either taking the user to another section or expanding video and images to view full-screen. And because this is not a ‘standard’ PowerPoint, we also created a user guide to ensure the reps didn’t break anything when making edits!
