L’Oréal – Metamorphosis

This is a stylish and surreal video shoot for L’Oreal – hair, make-up and clothing by Skyler McDonald of Sean Hanna. The video was created to precede a fashion show (titled ‘Metamorphosis’) in Paris to promote the company’s latest designs. The first part (shown above) introduces the model before she steps out onto the catwalk.

I was on the set to art direct the green-screen shoot. I then keyed out each sequence and created/animated the two videos. The original brief called for minimal shots/effects and a very sparse black and white look, however, I decided to expand on this in order to add a little more narrative to the two pieces. This video intentionally has a darker and more confined feel to illustrate the more ‘bound-up’ hair-style – with the drifting ‘ink in water’ motif representing the hair itself. The show was a big hit, receiving a standing ovation, because of this, it was shown again at KOKO in London.
