Workplace Options is the world’s largest independent provider of employee wellbeing training solutions. They offer a wide range of services and training programs. To promote and support this, they create their own A4 in-house guides, usually created in Word or PowerPoint. However, these are awkward to use and don’t present the brand in a good light.
After looking through the documents they supplied, my first suggestion was to create a content-managed website, to allow information to be more easily searched for, filtered, and updated. Unfortunately, for technical and budget reasons, this wasn’t an option.
So, my next solution was to fall back to the trusty ‘interactive PDF’. The initial stages involved working with them to collate and combine information from a wide range of sources and bring them together into a single (140-page) document. I then had to come up with a way to present each program in a consistent and easily understandable way, adding as much interactivity as technically possible within a PDF, using a simple UX that allows the user to jump around the document to find what they’re interested in.
As for the design, they wanted it to be bold and modern, whilst offering easily read copy across a range of screen sizes. They also saw this project as a chance to refresh the brand, so we did some work to refine the brand grid, layout, colours, and typography. This was all created in InDesign and then passed over to them for future updates and localisation. The end result was exported as both a PDF that could be shared directly, but also as an Adobe Online Publishing link so it could be viewed online:
